Weekend Round up

Posted on Monday, 8 June 2009, 06:27 p.m.

Congratulations go to Roger Federer, he won the French open for the first time and completed his career grand slam, one of only six men to do so, appropriate then that the presentations was carried out by Andre Agassi, the last man to complete the feat, wonder if Pete Sampras will present at Wimbledon should Federer win that he will pass Pete's grand slam total.

Congratulations also to Jenson Button who won the Turkish Grand Prix, he surely must be best bet for the British Grand Prix on the 21st.

The cricket 20:20 is throwing up surprises, England lost to the Netherlands but won against Pakistan and Australia lost to the West Indies.
Football seems to be on course as England won 4-0 against Kazakstan.

Congratulations to Yasmina who has become Sir Alan's new Apprentice, I must admit I thought Kate had it in the bag.

Commiserations to Gordon Brown, who despite his protestations to the contrary must now be doomed having lost out at the European elections in even more disastrous terms than was expected.

Thoughts go to the relatives of those lost on the Air France flight as the bodies and debris begin to be recovered, it is hard to imagine how they must be feeling knowing that they have lost people they love is hard enough but so little is known for the reasons behind it. We can only hope they can get some closure.

Commiserations as well to Benazir who was booted out of Big Brother unceremoniously and without best bits or a crowd.

Let us also hope that the police can curb this mindless violence as news comes through today that a pregnant woman was stabbed to death in a random attack, what is this world coming to? I worry about what will happen when my children reach their teenage years. As stories come over the news that one person has stabbed another it makes me wonder every time what it takes for one person to put a piece of metal viciously into another. It is something so alien to me, but so frequently seen on the TV that it has become common place! I hope that we can start to heal the disaffection these people feel, if we don't it will only get worse.

On a lighter mood, Boris Johnson made us all smile as when he pitched up to help out at a charity he only succeeded in dunking himself, you can always count on Boris!
